Narrate for The Thieves Guild

With the ongoing success of The Thieves Guild, what started out as an after hours hobby for writer Jake Kerr has become much bigger with many fans across the globe. We now have the resources to hire a narrator for the podcast and are looking to hire for that position.

The Thieves Guild is a hybrid between an audiobook and an audiodrama, featuring a narrator and a full cast of dozens of characters, all uniquely voiced. The Thieves Guild is one of the fastest growing audio drama podcasts in the world, with short episodes that run 10 to 15 minutes. We release episodes every week, 52 weeks a year. If you are interested in either of these positions, we highly recommend you listen to a few episodes. You can find more information here

We are looking for a voice actor with a distinctive and clear British accent. High clarity and diction while maintaining this accent is critical.

We are looking to fill two positions:

Voice Characterizations Actor

You will be the main voice actor for The Thieves Guild podcast, providing the emotions and voice behind every character in every episode. As a result, the ability to be versatile and consistent in how you read each role is critical. You will be voicing both female and male characters.

We use sophisticated and AI-driven voice filters to create a full cast production using your voice. If you would like to see how this will sound, please check out our Thursday podcast, which is narrated by a single human narrator. You will not be responsible for audio engineering or editing.

Compensation

We will pay $25 USD per episode for an audio file with raw narration. You will not be required to do any audio engineering at all, including noise reduction, splosive handling, or compression. We just want your expressive voice, and we will do the rest.

In terms of expectations, we expect that most episodes will be less than 15 minutes, which is the equivalent of $100/hour, not including your own editing of multiple takes.

This is a contracted position and not full-time.

Requirements

  • A distinctive and recognizable British accent
  • You can be male or female, as your voice will be filtered
  • The ability to maintain a weekly narration schedule with a 7 day turnaround time
  • The ability to create strong voicing of multiple characters within a single episode and across a long narrative of dozens of episodes
  • The ability to output clear and consistent quality audio on an ongoing basis. If your audio set up changes on an ongoing basis in a way that your voice will not be consistent over a long period of time, this is not the job for you.

A note on commitment

While this is a weekly commitment, we will also be hiring a backup Voice Characterizations Actor to fill in when you are unavailable.

Interested?

If you are interested in this position, please fill out the form below.

Backup Voice Characterizations Actor

Due to the grueling production schedule of 52 weeks a year, we will also be hiring a backup voice characterizations actor. The expectation is that when the main narrator is unavailable, you will be able to step in.

This role encompasses all of the above requirements but will be managed on an ad hoc contracted basis. Compensation is the same: $25 USD per episode.

Catalog Workload

As part of our commitment to moving to human narration, we will also be re-recording and updating all our previous episodes with a human narrator. To manage this workload, we expect a significant portion of this work will be managed by the backup voice characterizations actor.

Payment

We pay on the 7th day of the month following the month audio episodes delivered. This means that if you deliver 4 current episodes and 5 catalog episodes in June, you’ll receive $225 USD on July 7.

Narrate the Thieves Guild

Please upload a sample of your work. It should clearly indicate your ability to voice both narration and character dialogue. Please use minimal processing. We want to hear your voice and your phrasing.

There is no requirement for length. Include as much as you feel will get across the essence of your voice and style.
